Younis's body was transferred to Tel Habash village in Amude, northern Rojava.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – A member of a Kurdish party dies after he got tortured by the security forces belong to the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in the city of Amude in the Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava), said his colleague on Monday. 

Salah Saeed Younis was arrested by the PYD security forces in Amude on June 14 and was released after spending three months in prison.

Younis, who is a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party-Syria (KDP-S), was released from the PYD prison after his health condition deteriorated and lost sight in one of his eyes due to torture by the security forces, Jamshid Abdulhamid Mohammad told Kurdistan24, who is Younis's colleague and a member of the KDP-S.

After he was released on bail on September 6, Younis was transferred to the Kurdistan Region and received treatment in a hospital in Erbil.

On Monday, Salah Younis passed away in Rizgari hospital in Erbil due to his wounds and his body was transferred to Tel Habash village in Amude, northern Rojava, Mohammad said.

Previously, Younis was arrested two times by security forces in Amude city and was imprisoned by the Syrian regime forces for a while.

On Friday, security forces belonging to the Democratic Union Party (PYD) attacked the office of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) in the city of Amude in the Hasakah governorate in Rojava.

During the attack, the flag of Kurdistan was burned.

The Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani in a statement on Saturday expressed his concern over burning the Kurdistan flag and torturing Kurds in Rojava

President Barzani praised the people of Amude for defending genuineness, patriotism, and the high values of the people of Kurdistan,” and said, “I assure you the path of patriotism, Kurdish-ness, and genuineness will prevail and shame will remain for those who burn the flag of Kurdistan and torture the Kurdish youth.”
