Addressing climate change requires collective action: PM Masrour Barzani

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani was welcomed by United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during the opening ceremony of the 28th UN Climate Conference (COP28) in Dubai.

"Addressing climate change requires collective action. I’m pleased to be at COP28 to reaffirm the important work we do through our partnerships," Prime Minister Masrour Barzani posted on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. 

"Global gatherings on climate change have been prescient in identifying the threat to humanity," Barzani continued, while noting "The KRG (Kurdistan Regional Government) is committed to shouldering its responsibilities and contributing to ongoing international efforts."

Yesterday, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani arrived in Dubai and underlined he is "pleased to return to the UAE to join the global conversation in COP28."

"Failure to act is not an option. We, as a people and an integral part of our region must play a part," Barzani added.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani also joined the COP28 conference. 

The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC or COP28, will be the 28th United Nations Climate Change conference, taking place from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12, 2023, at Expo City in Dubai.
