"I’m pleased to return to the UAE to join the global conversation in COP28," PM Masrour Barzani posted on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. "Failure to act is not an option."
Moreover, he said that "we, as a people and an integral part of our region must play a part."
The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC or COP28, will be the 28th United Nations Climate Change conference, taking place from November 30 to December 12, 2023, at Expo City, Dubai.
“We are concerned. It's not just about water scarcity. There are many factors. Of course, water is the main concern,” PM Masrour Barzani stated during the MEPS Forum 2023 in Duhok in November.
“And I think the panel this morning discussed how rivers are diverted, or dams are built. So the inflow of water into Iraq is much less than it used to be, and also, the rains.”
Moreover, he highlighted that the rest of Iraq is even more affected by climate change. “In Kurdistan, we have our own resources. But is it taken seriously? Unfortunately, not to the extent that it should be. But it ought to be.”
Throughout the conference, numerous nations will engage in discussions to address climate change, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, and curb global warming, with the aim of achieving a consensus.
