ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Mohammed Shukri, the Chairman of the Kurdistan Board of Investment, on Monday told Kurdistan24 that "preparations are underway for an economic forum between French and Kurdish companies in Paris, scheduled to take place on May 21st this year."

Shukri’s remarks came during an official visit of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) delegation to Paris which consists of Safeen Dizayee, the head of the KRG’s Foreign Relations Department.

KRG Investment Board head revealed that the goal of the forum is to attract genuine French investors to the Kurdistan Region.

“We have numerous French investors in the Kurdistan Region who are involved in various fields. Their influence is particularly evident in Prime Minister Masrour Barzani's program for exporting goods,” he added and noted, “We will ensure effective coordination between investors from the Kurdistan Region and France during the forum that will take place in Paris.”

He also emphasized that the Kurdistan Region has great investment potential.

KRG delegation will attend a special ceremony which will be held on Tuesday in the French Parliament to celebrate Newroz.

Erbil and Paris share close economic, cultural, and political ties. The two capitals are sister cities.

As an integral part of the US-led coalition against ISIS, France has provided the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces with training as well as air support in the Kurdish forces’ fight against the terror group between 2014 and 2017.
