President Barzani to discuss ending conflict in Iraq, Syria in Davos 2017

The President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani is one of the speakers at the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting and will discuss conflict ending in Iraq and Syria on Jan. 20.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani is one of the speakers at the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting and will discuss conflict ending in Iraq and Syria on Jan. 20.

The 2017 WEF meeting will begin on Jan. 17 and end on Jan. 20 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.

According to the Kurdistan Region Presidency (KRP) website, President Barzani flew to Europe on Monday to participate in the forum.

President Barzani is one of the leaders from around the world who had been invited to speak about the situation in Syria and Iraq in a panel called “Syria and Iraq: Ending the Conflict.”

The panel will take place on Jan. 20 at 9:45 a.m. GMT.

Additionally, the panel will be joined by four more speakers including the UN mediator for Syria Steffan de Mistura, Chief Executive Officer of Crescent Petroleum Majid Jafar, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Mehmet Simsek, and Columnist of Asharq al-Awsat newspaper Mina al-Oraibi.

It is the WEF’s 47th meeting where over 3,000 world leaders, executives, entrepreneurs, actors, celebrities, and journalists will gather in Davos located in eastern Switzerland to discuss threats and opportunities encountering the globe.

The Kurdistan Region is home to over 1.8 million refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who had fled from the threat of the Islamic State in Syria and other parts of Iraq.

In 2015, President Barzani also participated in the WEF meeting and met with several officials and world leaders to discuss the instability and peace process in the Middle East.
