ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region’s experiences against extremism can be a model for other countries, the ambassador of the Philippines to Iraq said during a meeting with the autonomous region’s prime minister on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Philippine envoy to Iraq Generoso D.G. Calonge met in Erbil, where they discussed bilateral relations, according to a press release from the premier’s office.

Calonge hailed the role of the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces in the fight against ISIS and expressed his country’s willingness to “benefit from the successful experience of the Kurdistan Region in combating radicalism and terrorism,” the release said.

The Kurdish premier, in turn, reiterated the importance of preventing radicalism before it leads to violence, the release said.
