Turkey plants 20,000 tree saplings in Kurdistan Region
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – 20,000 saplings have been delivered to Erbil as part of the second phase of the Nefas Project.
The project, which seeks to combat global warming, is coordinated in conjunction between Turkey’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Agriculture and water Resources.
Erbil’s agriculture director, Hemin Said Murad, told Kurdistan 24 that the Turkish saplings are of various types and will be distributed to different regions according to the temperature and soil to be planted.
The Director also stated that another 27,000 of the saplings will be sent from Turkey as part of the project.
The Nefas Project to plant approximately 47,000 trees in the Kasnazan forest was announced earlier in coordination with the Turkish Consulate in the Kurdistan Region, and the project commenced in Erbil on Nov. 23.
This project is part of combating climate change in the Kurdistan Region.
Moreover, Turkish Consul General to Erbil Mehmet Mevlut Yakut on the occasion told Kurdistan 24 that Kurdistan Region-Turkey ties are “positive” especially in tourism, education, trade, and the economy.
"The tree [Nefas] planting project has brought our relations to a different level and we will continue our dialogue in all areas," Yakut added.
Within the scope of the "Breath to the Future Project" we delivered more than 20.000 oak and red pine saplings from Türkiye to the KRG today. We will continue to contribute to a greener and cleaner environment.
