ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Sunday held a presser in Baghdad after he met with Iraqi top officials.

"We discussed the issue of people's livelihoods. We believe the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has fulfilled all its obligations to Baghdad. However, we believe that the issue of salaries should not be politicized or used as a pressure tactic against the Kurdistan Region,” President Barzani said.

He also said that the Iraqi Prime Minister has an excellent understanding of resolving the salary issue.

"Another issue we discussed with Baghdad was the security issue and drone attacks, which are the cause of disruption of security in Iraq," Barzani revealed.

In response to a question from Kurdistan24 reporter Shivan Jabari in Baghdad, Barzani said that “the drone attacks on the Kurdistan Region are a violation of Iraqi sovereignty. We want to resolve this issue.”

"I have not received any guarantee that the drone attacks will not be repeated. I have explained the Kurdistan Region's position to Baghdad and the Iraqi officials have had a good understanding of this," he added.

Regarding the postponement of Kurdish parliamentary elections, Barzani noted that the delay calls into question the legitimacy of KRG institutions.
