ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw on Tuesday chaired a meeting with all service offices to discuss the unfavorable weather conditions and potential flash floods for the next two days, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

The governor stressed the importance of assessing the situation and ensuring the follow-up of previous measures taken. All service offices should remain vigilant for any potential incidents. The meeting resulted in the following decisions:

All local authorities have been instructed to establish operations centers in their respective areas and ensure preparedness for any unforeseen events, according to the meeting.

The General Directorate of Municipalities, Erbil Water and Sewerage Directorates, and Irrigation departments have been directed to continue cleaning the roads, including natural rainwater channels, wells, tunnels, and sewers in areas prone to water accumulation and flooding.

The government institutes and offices should be prepared and coordinate their efforts for any eventualities.

Post-rain floods are a perennial issue in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as a whole, caused in large part by insufficient infrastructure, including inefficient or poorly maintained urban rainwater management, and sewage systems.
