ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) celebrated International Women's Day on March 8, 2024, with various awareness activities in different fields.

Kurdistan24 held an open debate with Zrebar Hawrani, a businesswoman and athlete, Noshika Taha, a teacher and musician, Shanaz Jamal, a cultural activist and Dr. Sarah, a cancer specialist.  The main focus of the discussion was about the importance of women's position in society.

Initially, Dr. Sarah pointed out that due to her profession, she and other physicians like her constantly receive female cancer patients; therefore, as women, and also as doctors, “we stand by our female patients and give them hope to overcome their illness.”

Shanaz Jamal highlighted that the women of Kurdistan, in the past few years, have made considerable contributions to one field or another. “They have been capable of at least providing support to their families and the society in general to surpass difficulties and problems,” she added.

Noshika Taha, a teacher and musician, pointed out that women are symbols of peace and contain all the pains and joys together. She noted that women's rights come into being at birth and are then developed. Regarding music, she believed that music expressed peace, and peace is the definition of women, especially mothers.

Zrebar Hawrami believed that Kurdish women have played an important tragic role in the history and politics of Kurdistan society in the past, in a way that they participated in the Kurdistan liberation movement and made Kurdish history and Kurdistan brighter and prouder.

Every year on March 8, the International Women's Day, women in the Kurdistan Region carry out various activities. Some women's organizations and social experts believe that spreading awareness through conferences and seminars for Kurdistan society is necessary to understand the problems and issues that women face.
