ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Spring Festival in Mosul commenced with the presence of Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw, representatives from the Kurdistan Regional Government, representatives from the Iraqi President and Prime Minister, Nineveh Governor, and several Iraqi ministers and parliamentarians.

The festival will take place under the slogan "Message of Peace and Prosperity." Also, the governor of Nineveh Abdulqadir al-Dakhil has declared today an official holiday, providing citizens with a better opportunity to participate in the 37th Spring Festival.

The festival will continue with plays by the Artists Union and the College of Fine Arts, as well as various song and music performances.

The inaugural Mosul Spring Festival took place in 1969 and was officially designated as the "Mother of Spring" by the provincial authorities.

ISIS occupied Mosul in 2014 which had a devastating impact on the local population. The terrorist group imposed strict control over residents, implementing harsh laws and punishments. Many civilians were forced to flee their homes and became internally displaced, while those who remained faced constant fear and violence. The city's infrastructure was also severely damaged, leaving residents without basic services such as electricity and clean water.
