PM Barzani highlights bilateral cooperation in meeting with Turkish President Erdogan

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region (KRG) Prime Minister took to social media platform X to announce a constructive dialogue between the KRG and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, addressing a spectrum of regional and bilateral issues.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Erbil on Monday evening April 22 was met with a warm reception by KRG President Nechirvan Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. Discussions centered on bolstering bilateral ties and navigating the evolving dynamics in Iraq and the broader region.

In the post, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of the visit, stating that both parties were “engaged in a fruitful exchange on a range of regional and bilateral matters.”

Both sides shared commitment to uphold security and stability in the region, advocating for peaceful resolution of disputes between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in accordance with constitutional principles.

Mutual consensus was reached on enhancing coordination and collaborative efforts in the realms of trade and investment, signaling a commitment to foster economic prosperity and mutual growth.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani reiterated the KRG's unwavering dedication to strengthening relations and expanding economic and trade cooperation with Turkey. He expressed gratitude to Turkish enterprises for their continued investment and job creation efforts, even amidst challenging economic circumstances, emphasizing ongoing collaboration in project implementation.

The discussions between KRG officials and Turkish President Erdogan mark a significant step towards fostering enduring partnerships and advancing mutual interests for the prosperity and stability of the region.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Baghdad on Monday for a state visit, where he held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. The visit, which underscored the ongoing diplomatic engagement between Turkey and Iraq, was poised to address critical issues of mutual interest and cooperation.

Upon his arrival, President Erdogan and his accompanying delegation were received by Prime Minister al-Sudani, followed by a formal reception at the Presidential Salam Palace with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rasheed.

The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Monday emphasized the significance of enhancing bilateral relations between their respective countries. This is Erdogan's second visit to Erbil. The first was in 2011 when he was prime minister of Turkey, and he participated in the opening of Erbil International Airport (EIA) with then KRG's President Masoud Barzani. However, this was his first visit to Erbil as the president of Turkey.
