IRC sent 14-ton medical aid to Rojava

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – On Sunday, International Rescue Committee (IRC) sent a large amount of medical aid to support the conflict-affected Syrian civilians.

An embedded Kurdistan24 reporter on the border crossing between the Kurdistan Region and Rojava said that nearly 14 tons of medical supplies were sent to Rojava. The aid is meant to support the conflict-affected Syrian civilians.

"The trucks carrying medical aid crossed the border towards Qamishlo, Derik, and many other cities and towns where hospitals are desperate for medical supplies due to the embargo imposed on the Kurdish areas in northern Syria," the Kurdistan24 reporter said.

Additionally, it was reported that hospitals and medical clinics are mostly located near the Regime controlled areas in the city of Qamishlo.

As a result, wounded civilians and fighters are transferred to hospitals in the surrounding towns which have limited ability and cannot treat a large number of patients.

On Friday, the Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani ordered all the Region’s health institutions to be ready to receive the wounded from Qamishlo and provide the medical attention they need.

In the Syrian Kurdish city of Qamishlo, noth east Syria near the Turkish border, fighting broke out between Kurdish Asayish (security) forces and pro-Syrian government units. A peace accord took effect at 3:30 p.m. (12:30 GMT) on Friday and the truce has continued to hold through Sunday.

During the clashes, the Kurdish forces killed about 31 Syrian regime militants, and captured 102 others while the Kurdish security forces and YPG lost 10 elements, and 17 civilians lost their lives.
