ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A 6-year-old child died of wounds he sustained in a motorcycle-bomb explosion on the Al-Sarvis street in Al-Ashrafiah neighbourhood in Afrin city, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reports.

The SOHR said that a motorcycle-bomb was detonated by unknown persons on Al-Sarvis street in the Al-Ashrafiah neighbourhood of Afrin city, northwest of Aleppo.

The attack injured five civilians, including children, and they were taken to a hospital for treatment.

In March 2018, Turkey and the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) took control of Afrin as part of Operation Olive Branch.

Since then, Afrin has grappled with insecurity, including instances of explosions and internal conflicts among rival Turkish-backed factions.

The recent attack in Afrin occurred against the backdrop of escalating Turkish drone and airstrikes targeting areas in northeast Syria. These attacks have resulted in the death of eight civilians thus far.
