BCF delivers 15 days worth of food to residential area under COVID-19 quarantine in Erbil

The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) has provided 15 days worth of food and necessities for each household in a quarantined residential compound west of Erbil.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) has provided 15 days worth of food and necessities for each household in a quarantined residential compound west of Erbil.

The Ministry of Health put the Siberan residential compound west of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil under quarantine on Sunday after discovering that an individual returned from Iran illegally without being tested or held in quarantine for having the coronavirus.

“The aid consists of basic food items. Each household will receive a 50-kilogram bag of flour, and a food basket with 11 different types of dry food,” Musa Ahmed, Head of the BCF, told Kurdistan 24.

“The aid is not restricted to only the residential compound, but all over the Kurdistan Region,” Ahmed added. “We have distributed [the aid] according to the medical regulations as it is very crucial for us to take the safety and health of the people and our teams into consideration.”

The Siberan residential complex is nine kilometers far from Erbil with 1,500 households, and a population of 5,300 individuals. Security forces are guarding every entrance in the area while mobile health clinics are testing each of its residents for COVID-19.

On March 16, BCF announced it had established a hotline in every city in the Kurdistan Region to provide food baskets to low-income families amid the curfews imposed across the region.

The BCF is one of the most active humanitarian NGOs in Kurdistan that often provides a substantial amount of aid to internally displaced persons and refugees in both Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and northern Syria, as well as multiple programs to enrich the lives of displaced children.

The organization was founded in 2005 and, in its own words, “strives to honor the great legacy of Malla Mustafa Barzani, the leader of the Kurdish Liberation Movement and influencer of the contemporary Kurdish nation.”
