VIDEO: Peshmerga convoys head to front lines near Mosul

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Footage filmed by a Kurdistan24 reporter shows the Peshmerga forces convoys heading to the front lines in preparation for the upcoming Mosul offensive against the Islamic State (IS).

On Oct. 15, the Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani stated in a tweet that “the time has come to begin the liberation of Mosul.”

Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, was taken over by IS in 2014.

Since then, the insurgent group has lost large swaths of territory and are on the brink of defeat.

Peshmerga and Iraqi security forces with the US-led coalition are currently preparing to launch the major operation to clear the city and end IS’ self-claimed caliphate in Iraq.
