KRG: PKK systematically creates tension in Shingal

“KRG does not want clashes or tensions to occur,” the statement concluded.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Interior accused the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) on Tuesday of planning on destabilizing Shingal area.

KRG’s Ministry of Interior released a statement calling on the PKK to act rationally and stop provoking the Kurdistan Region security forces.

On Tuesday, the PKK supporters gathered in Khasanor area, northern Shingal to protest the presence of the Peshmerga forces deployed to protect the Kurdistan Region border with Syria.

“PKK is planning on systematically creating tension and chaos in the region [Shingal area]. They continue to provoke the KRG forces deployed in the area to trigger clashes,” the statement added.

The Ministry of Interior’s statement said that in the past few days, PKK has brought people and armed forces from Hasaka and Derk in Syrian Kurdistan, stating that they wanted to attack KRG’s official forces in Khanasor area, but the Riot Police controlled the situation and prevented clashes from occurring.

The KRG holds the PKK responsible for the events that occurred on Tuesday, stating that some riot Police members were injured.

The statement blamed the PKK for intentionally using the Ezidis as “machines to implement its plans.”

“KRG does not want clashes or tensions to occur,” the statement concluded.
