Bangladesh to open office in Kurdistan Region’s capital

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Baghdad announced it intends to open a representative office in Erbil to foster bilateral relations with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Embassy of Bangladesh in Baghdad announced it intends to open a representative office in Erbil to foster bilateral relations with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

On Sunday, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Iraq Abu Maqsod Farhad visited Erbil and met with the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani.

In the meeting, Farhad praised the development of the Kurdistan Region in the past years, especially in Erbil. He stated that Bangladesh wants to strengthen its relations with the Kurdistan Region, according to the KRG Prime Minister’s press office.

He mentioned that the Embassy of Bangladesh in Baghdad aims to open a representative office in Erbil in the future to foster ties and facilitate affairs related to Bangladeshi nationals currently working in the Kurdistan Region.

There are thousands of workers from Bangladesh working in various sectors in the Region, some via companies who specialize in bringing foreign workers to Kurdistan.

Barzani stated that the KRG would facilitate the exchange of employees with Bangladesh and suggested the creation of a mechanism to help people from Bangladesh wishing to work in the Kurdistan Region apply through more formal and official government channels.

Both sides discussed cooperating in the industry and service sectors, areas of expertise for Bangladesh and its skilled workers who operate in the Kurdistan Region and around the world.

There are over 30 foreign consulate and representative offices in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region. Kurdistan is one of the only federal regions in the world that has considerably developed its diplomatic ties with several countries across the globe.
