The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) strongly condemned the crimes committed against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and called on the international community to prevent further human rights violations.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) strongly condemned the crimes committed against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and called on the international community to prevent further human rights violations.

“We strongly condemn crimes such as the murder, persecution, and expulsion of civilian Rohingya Muslim in Myanmar,” the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) statement read.

“The people of the Kurdistan Region, who have suffered chemical attacks, genocides, and Da’esh's crimes against humanity, closely feel the pain of the Rohingya Muslims and express sympathy as well as extend our support to them,” the statement continued, using the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State (IS).

The KRG also expressed its concern toward the international community inability to prevent crimes that are repeatedly committed. The KRG asked the international community to take serious steps “to end the tragedy and the catastrophes committed against the people of Rohingya and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

According to the UN, over 150,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh since Aug. 25 due to rise in violence in Myanmar.

On Tuesday, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed the Myanmar authorities to put an end to the violence against Rohingya Muslims, warning of the risk of ethnic cleansing in the country, an impending humanitarian crisis, and regional destabilization.
