‘Kurdistan Women Union has an important and honorable history’: PM Barzani

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani congratulated the Kurdistan Women Union on the 69th anniversary of its founding on Saturday and praised its role in defending women’s rights in the region. 

“The Kurdistan Women Union has an important and honorable history,” read Barzani’s statement. 

In the statement, Barzani described the union as “one of the important achievements of the Kurdish struggle that played a prominent role in defending women’s rights.”

The prime minister congratulated the Kurdistan Women Union’s secretary, the members of the union’s secretariat, and all women of the Kurdistan Region, wishing “them all success in their work.” 

His statement also said the union “had an important role in educating women in all different stages of Kurdistan’s history.” 

“I hope they continue their organizational work and struggle in defending women’s rights and defending the national issues.”

According to its website, the Kurdistan Women Union advocates for the interests and rights of women within the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Kurdish society. Ever since its formation in 1952, the union has actively participated in the Kurdish national struggle and fought for the realization of human and democratic rights for the people of Kurdistan.
