ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Halabja has had over 348 mm of rain since September, the highest amount in the entire Kurdistan Region, according to official figures announced on Wednesday.

Neighboring Sulaimani experienced the second-highest rainfall with 318.8 mm recorded in the same period, according to the weather forecasts of the General Directorate of Meteorology and Seismology.

On the other hand, Erbil had 214.9 mm, and Duhok a mere 137.9 mm.

Kirkuk had the lowest amount of rainfall, with only 98.6 mm recorded.

Limited rainfall coupled with decreased upstream flows of water and the mismanagement of water resources has resulted in the slashing of wheat crops and a water crisis in parts of the Kurdistan Region.

Weather experts say they can only determine the risk of drought after assessing the amount of rainfall at the end of April.
