Police arrest armed men who attacked Kurdish professor

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Erbil’s Chief of Police on Wednesday said the two armed men who attacked renowned Kurdish professor Farhad Pirbal had been arrested.

Speaking to Kurdistan24 over the phone, Erbil Police Chief Brigadier-General Abdulkhaliq Talaat said the two persons who assaulted Pirbal were arrested.

Two armed men attacked Pirbal, a well-known professor and writer, in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.

“The Kurdistan Region President was notified about the incident and has assigned the related institutions to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” a statement by the Kurdistan Region Presidency read.

The report mentioned President Barzani was “concerned” about the incident.

Speaking to Kurdistan24 over the phone, Pirbal’s assistant said the professor’s condition was stable and, after receiving treatment, he had left the hospital.

The assistant added Pirbal went to the Khanaqa Police Station to file a lawsuit against the perpetrators.
