The people of Iran began casting their votes on Friday in a presidential election that is believed to be a tight competition between candidates.
TEHRAN, Iran (Kurdistan24) – The people of Iran began casting their votes on Friday in a presidential election that is believed to be a tight competition between candidates.
At 08:00 local time, more than 63,000 polling stations opened for over 56 million Iranian citizens eligible to vote, out of a total 80 million people in the country.
The race is expected to be a close call between incumbent President of Iran Hassan Rouhani and his opponent Ebrahim Raisi.
Polls will close at 18:00 in the evening, but, as the country has witnessed in previous elections, it is likely to be extended amid expectation of a high turnout.
