ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Masoud Barzani, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), reiterated on Thursday that parliamentary elections in the autonomous region will be held on time.

Barzani said this during his meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Cricante, in Erbil on Thursday.

In that meeting, the two officials discussed the latest political developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as well as the bilateral ties, according to a press release from Barzani’s office.

The KDP president “reiterated that the next Kurdistan Region [parliamentary] elections will be held on time,” the statement added.

Barzani and Cricante also highlighted the recent decisions by the Iraqi Federal Court regarding the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) oil dossier.

The Kurdistan Region is set to hold its 6th round of parliamentary elections in September.

In mid-February, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani also said that the autonomous region would hold elections on time.

Political parties are in talks on the nature of the next elections.
