Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker visits Russia

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami arrived in Moscow on Sunday at the official invitation of the Valdai Discussion Club for its Middle East conference.

The Valdai Discussion Club and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences are holding their eleventh Middle East Conference called 'Russia and the Middle East: Strategic Rapprochement and the Intertwinement of Interests'.

On the sidelines of the conference, Hawrami will have meetings with officials and participants.

"The Deputy Speaker will also visit the State Duma, the lower house of Russia's federal assembly, to discuss with senior officials strengthening relations between their respective legislatures in terms of legislation and sharing parliamentary knowledge and expertise," the parliament said in a press statement.

Last October, the Russian Ambassador to Iraq Elbrus Kutrashev told Kurdistan 24 that Russia has "excellent political dialogue with the Kurdish leadership."

"We have good relations with Iraqi Kurdistan," Kutrashev said. "We look at relations with this part of Iraq as a very important part in terms of our general policies in Iraq."

"In Kurdistan, we have had traditional humanitarian ties with Kurds, which go back to the '40s."
