Kurdistan Region to hold investment and industry conference

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Board of Investment announced future projects in the autonomous region on Sunday. 

"In a meeting with the KRG Board of Investment today, we set plans for establishing a number of industrial areas in the outskirts of Erbil and Halabja provinces and around the Zakho administration," KRG Minister of Trade and Industry Kamal Muslim told a press conference. "With the Board of Investment, we have discussed setting new strategies to develop the industrial sector in the region."

Muslim revealed that his ministry has been working closely with the KRG Board of Investment to allocate land for the new industrial zones. 

"We have allocated plots of land for industrial zones," Mohammed Shukri, head of the Board of Investment, told Sunday's press conference. "From now on, there will be a major focus on developing the industrial sector of the Kurdistan Region."

Shukri revealed that the Board of Investment, in cooperation with the KRG Ministry of Trade and Industry, will hold a conference for investment and industry sometime around the end of February. 

It is within the ninth cabinet's program of the KRG to pay additional attention to the sectors of industry and agriculture to strengthen the region's self-dependence capabilities. 

Since entering office in 2019, the KRG ninth cabinet has sought to improve the region's agriculture and industry by establishing several factories for making foodstuff and construction materials.

Masrour Barzani was appointed prime minister of the ninth cabinet on July 10, 2019.

His promotion to the role follows a long and successful tenure as Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council, where he led efforts to protect the autonomous region from ISIS.
