US delivers heavy weapons to Peshmerga forces in Kurdistan Region

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Tuesday, Peshmerga Minister Shoresh Ismail announced the delivery of a significant quantity of heavy weapons from the US government and military to the Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan Region.

"Today is a historic day for the Kurdistan Peshmerga Ministry and Forces, as the US government and US military continue to provide assistance and support to the Peshmerga Forces," Minister Ismail stated.

He added, "A quantity of weapons, including heavy artillery, will be delivered to the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces, which will certainly raise the military capabilities of the Peshmerga Ministry to a higher level in military technology."

Peshmerga Minister Ismail highlighted the Peshmerga's anticipation for these advanced weapons, emphasizing the importance of continued support from allies, particularly the United States.

"We would like to thank the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Ministry of Peshmerga for their role in obtaining support from the US government and Department of Defense," he said.

The Minister also expressed gratitude towards Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and the Commander of the Iraqi Army for facilitating the delivery of these weapons to the Peshmerga forces. He noted that this cooperation underscores the constitutional recognition of the Peshmerga forces as part of Iraq's defense system.

The weapons were handed over in the presence of Peshmerga Ministry officials, the coalition military advisor, and the US consul. The American forces provided the Peshmerga with heavy artillery, a major step that the Peshmerga Minister Ismail believes will significantly enhance their military capabilities.

Minister Ismail extended his thanks and appreciation to the United States and the US Department of Defense for supplying these weapons, and he praised the efforts of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Minister of Defense, and the Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army for ensuring the weapons reached the Peshmerga.

He called on the Iraqi government to provide military, financial, and logistical assistance to the Peshmerga forces, akin to their counterparts in the federal forces, recognizing them as part of Iraq's defense and security system.

Minister Ismail stressed that the Peshmerga forces have played a crucial role in confronting ISIS and breaking its myth, and he reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Iraq's security from terrorist threats alongside the federal security forces.
