EU Ambassador to Iraq attended First Report To Apply the Strategic Procedures To Combat the Corruption
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Iraq, Thomas Seiler attended the platform of the First Report To Apply the Strategic Procedures To Combat the Corruption in Kurdistan Region, on Wednesday, in Erbil.
“It is very important to fight the corruption in Iraq because it is internationally ranked as the 25th in the corruption” Mr. Seiler gave his speech at the event “there is good step taking against the corruption in Kurdistan Region, especially in Erbil, historical step within the circle of the plan to fight the corruption and lessen it to the lowest level”
"I can tell you that you cannot completely eliminate the corruption, but it is to weaken as much possible as you are able to," Seiler added.
According to his statement, Iraq and Kurdistan Region are trying to prosecute those who facilitate the corruption. He requested to drag who participate in the corruption down into the international file, as well as the policy and the laws that the federal government and Kurdistan Region have, to coordinated with international establishment.
He warned if the corruption continues, the situation would carry on ups and down Iraq is ranked 25th in the world in terms of corruption. “As you see Iraq is the 25th on the list of the corruption” Seiler emphasized
"How can we achieve those goals, together? The European Union is coordinating with the UNDP as well as the two Commissions of Integrity, they have already taken good steps to confront this, but it needs long-term plan to continue, not only, few actions here and there. There is cooperation between the governments, political parties and civil society organizations”
