SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani on Monday visited the late Gorran party leader’s tomb in Sulaimani Province, praising him for contributing to Kurdistan’s achievements.

On May 19, the head of the Gorran Movement (Change) Nawshirwan Mustafa, 73, died in his hometown province of Sulaimani in the Kurdistan Region after suffering from lung cancer for years.

“Certainly, Mr. Nawshirwan, as a leader of this country, has always been highly respected and honored,” the Kurdish PM said after placing flowers on his tomb.

“If we look at his life, he has spent it all on the principles he believed in which were striving for his nation,” PM Barzani added.

He expressed his sympathy to Mustafa’s family and supporters. “We hope this will be an opportunity for all of us [Kurdish parties] to resolve the issues we have together,” he said.

PM Barzani mentioned there were political differences between Kurdish parties, but there were several duties accomplished together with the participation of Mustafa.

He referred to Mustafa’s joint efforts within the Kurdistan Nationalist Front in 1991 which organized the uprising against the Iraqi dictatorship in the Region.

PM Barzani also highlighted Mustafa’s significant role in writing the current constitution of Iraq along with other leaders.

“Joint duties have resulted in significant achievements for the Kurdistan Region,” the Kurdish PM concluded.
