US delegation visits KRG Prime Minister following Russia trip
The US Ambassador to Iraq said he hoped Kurdish political parties remain unified, balanced, and strong in Baghdad so they can effectively play their role in the success of the elections process as well as the formation of the next Iraqi government.
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister on Thursday received an American diplomatic delegation headed by the United States Ambassador to Iraq to discuss the elections process in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
A statement from the KRG website said that Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Silliman, and an accompanying delegation discussed the preparations for the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections to be held on May 12.

“Both sides hoped for democratic, regular elections,” the statement added.
It said Barzani and Silliman called on Iraqi political parties to hold serious talks after the elections to form a new government in Iraq which brings political stability as well as economic prosperity to the country.
Silliman said he hoped Kurdish political parties remain unified, balanced, and strong in Baghdad so they can effectively play their role in the success of the elections process as well as the formation of the next Iraqi government.
The KRG Prime Minister, meanwhile, affirmed that all efforts would be made, so parties in the Kurdistan Region maintain and strengthen their unity when going to Baghdad.
Barzani highlighted the orderly elections campaign in Kurdistan, expressing his hope that the voting process across Iraq would be undertaken in the same manner.
The KRG statement did not mention whether Prime Minister Barzani’s visit to Russia was part of the discussions.
Barzani returned to the Kurdistan Region capital of Erbil on Thursday after attending a Victory Day Parade and meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
