PM Barzani, top US diplomat discuss bilateral ties

Both sides agreed to support efforts to resolve the Erbil-Baghdad issues in a manner that respects the Iraqi federal system.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday discussed bilateral ties with David Burger, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Baghdad.

The meeting, which was attended by the US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region Mark Stroh, also discussed the general situation in Iraq and the importance of resolving issues between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi government based on the constitution.

Both sides agreed to support efforts to resolve the Erbil-Baghdad issues in a manner that respects the Iraqi federal system. In this regard, the prime minister's visit to Baghdad last week and his meetings with the prime minister and leaders of Iraqi political forces and parties were evaluated as a positive step towards fundamentally resolving the issues.

Emphasizing the need to hold the Kurdistan parliamentary elections at an appropriate time this year was another topic of the meeting.
