ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani on Friday discussed bilateral ties with Ali Bagheri, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, and his accompanying delegation, according to a statement from Barzani Headquarters.

The meeting focused on the political situation in the region and Iraq. It placed strong emphasis on the need to develop relations and foster friendship between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly in the fields of economics, trade, and culture.

In the meeting, Iran's acting Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude for the Kurdistan Region's stance on the helicopter crash and the unfortunate passing of the Iranian President and his team.

Bagheri arrived in Erbil on Friday and met with top Kurdish officials including Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and President Nechirvan Barzani.

Iran's former President Ebrahim Raisi and his team were killed when their helicopter crashed in East Azerbaijan Province. The tragic accident occurred due to bad weather conditions. Despite an exhaustive 18-hour search, the wreckage of the helicopter was eventually discovered, confirming the loss of all nine passengers, including Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
