Civil Defense Directorate rescues Australian woman from Qaymasan river
The 49-year-old Australian woman, a university professor in Baghdad, was visiting the Kurdistan Region with a tourist group.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A team from the Choman base of the Civil Defense Directorate of Soran Independent Administration successfully rescued an Australian woman from the Qaymasan River early this morning.
Karwan Mirawdali, director of civil defense for the Soran Independent Administration, told Kurdistan 24 that they received an alert at 1:50 am regarding a foreign citizen trapped in the Qaymasan area of Nawpirdan village in Choman district.
The 49-year-old Australian woman, a university professor in Baghdad, was visiting the Kurdistan Region with a tourist group.
Mirawdali reported that the civil defense teams from Choman base were able to rescue her from drowning in the challenging mountainous terrain and the Qaymasan River.
