ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdish products are now prominently featured in UK supermarkets under their Kurdish names, experiencing high demand.
Previously, products from other countries dominated the shelves. A supermarket in Birmingham, where a significant portion of the products are Kurdish, now stocks items such as Halabja’s olive oil, Akre’s rice, Kurdish cheese, and various other Kurdish goods.
Jamal Maref, a restaurant owner in the UK, expressed his delight at seeing products from the Kurdistan Region available in local markets.
“I am very happy that products from the Kurdistan Region are imported to the UK. Previously, there were only Turkish, Syrian, Lebanese, or other countries' products available, but now Kurdish products, particularly Kurdish rice, can be found in the markets. Kurdish rice can be cooked easily, tastes better, and is generally different from other types of rice,” he told Kurdistan24's correpondent in UK, Dilovan Emadaldin.
Fatima Safawi, who manages a warehouse, noted that most of their storage is now dedicated to Kurdish products. She discussed the market competition between Kurdish products and those from other countries.
“Most of our goods and products were Turkish and Iranian before, but now most of them are Kurdish, and our customers like Kurdish products. You can see that most of our products come from the Kurdistan Region,” she said.
After shopping, Chef Jamal returns to his restaurant to prepare food. He believes that the secret to his delicious dishes lies in using Kurdish products.
“Kurdish products are better for us, both for the customers and for our relatives in the Kurdistan Region, because there will be more jobs and the economy will revive,” he stated.
Many other restaurant owners have also started using Kurdish products in their establishments, contributing to crowded and successful businesses.
