Unemployed petrol engineers protest in Basra

An unemployed engineer stated “We are on an ocean of oil, apart from polluting the air and causing the cancer, it didn’t benefit this city’s residents”

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The protesters expressed their frustration about the unemployment situation to Kurdistan 24. They confirmed the unemployment hit hard the Iraqi universities graduates.

According to their slogans, there are many graduate engineers who don’t have any job, or get into the employment process by the Iraqi government,

The protesters revealed to demand the government to create job opportunities as well as to gain their rights of employment.  

One of the groups who enormously suffered, and continuously complaint was the petrol engineers who haven’t been employed, and they planned to protest in the summer and in the winter too.

The engineers who work in the petrol field in Basra, the southern city of Iraq, revealed to Kurdistan 24, they live on an ocean of oil, yet it didn’t benefit them.

One of the oil engineers, in the protest stated “We will protest through, in the summer, and then in the winter as well. It is one year and a half, this is our situation: Boys and girls burnt under this hot burning sun. No one had come to help us out of this circumstance, we were only given promises”

Another petrol engineer stated “Protesting in this hot sunny day, is to ask to get employed. We are on an ocean of oil, apart from polluting the air and causing cancer, it didn’t benefit this city’s residents”

These protesters complained and thought it would be preferrable for the government to close down the universities, rather every year a large number of graduates stay unemployed and jobless.
