Drug suspect arrested in Duhok
This arrest was made following an investigation, information gathering, and upon receiving an order from the security investigation judge. The suspect was found in possession of 35 kilograms of methamphetamine.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region’s anti-narcotics agency announced in a statement on Saturday that, as part of our ongoing efforts to combat and eradicate drugs, our teams successfully arrested a suspect in Duhok on July 12.
This arrest was made following an investigation, information gathering, and upon receiving an order from the security investigation judge. The suspect was found in possession of 35 kilograms of methamphetamine.
Currently, the suspect is detained and under investigation in accordance with the Anti-Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The Kurdistan Region has ramped up arrest and confiscation efforts in a bid in recent years to crack down on the spread of narcotics.
Drug trafficking and use have seen a surge in Iraq, particularly in recent decades.
The Kurdistan Regional Government in mid-October of 2023 held a Conference on Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in the presence of several faith community leaders, security officials, and regional and Western diplomats to discuss the issue.
