ISIS attack in Qarah Anjir leaves security forces casualty, terrorists neutralized
One ISIS fighter was killed, and the other was wounded during the confrontation. Tragically, the clash also resulted in the death of one security force member and the injury of another.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Sunday morning, two ISIS fighters infiltrated the town of Qarah Anjir, east of Kirkuk Province, resulting in a deadly clash with local security forces.
According to Avesta Sheikh Mohammed, the mayor of Qarah Anjir, the ISIS fighters, riding a motorcycle, attempted to enter a school but were confronted by the town's security forces.
One ISIS fighter was killed, and the other was wounded during the confrontation. Tragically, the clash also resulted in the death of one security force member and the injury of another.
The Kurdistan Region’s Security Agency confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the clash occurred at 8:00 AM on Sunday.
The security forces from the Directorate of Kirkuk Security had received crucial information in advance and were monitoring the ISIS terrorists closely. Their swift action led to the neutralization of the threat, with one terrorist killed and the other injured.
The statement identified the fallen security force member as Jawamer Aziz Rashid. It also highlighted the terrorists' intention to carry out further attacks in the area.
The two ISIS fighters had previously committed several terrorist acts, including the killing of police officers in Kirkuk's Shoraw and Panja Ali neighborhoods, planting a roadside bomb, and murdering police officers in the marketplace and in front of Jomhoori (Republic) Hospital.
The security forces’ vigilance and decisive action in Qarah Anjir prevented further violence, but the incident underscores the ongoing threat posed by ISIS militants in the region.
