Kurdistan Region Security Council announces major anti-drug trafficking successes

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) issued a statement on Wednesday, highlighting their successful operations to enhance social stability and combat drug trafficking. These efforts, conducted between October 24, 2023, and July 12, 2024, have led to the arrest of numerous individuals involved in the drug trade, including both domestic and international traffickers, as well as many charged with drug use.
During these operations, the KRSC seized a significant quantity of various drugs, including methamphetamine, hashish, opium, heroin, and marijuana. Additionally, authorities confiscated several kilograms of Captagon and thousands of sheets of tramadol.
The KRSC confirmed that all suspects had been handed over to the appropriate authorities for legal proceedings.
In a related announcement, the Kurdistan Region's anti-narcotics agency reported the seizure of a total of 952 kilograms of drugs over the past eight and a half months. The detailed breakdown of the seized drugs is as follows:
- Heroin: 5 kg
- Hashish: 89 kg
- Marijuana: 3 kg
- Opium: 28 kg
- Crystal: 205 kg
- Liquid methamphetamine:51 kg
- Captagon tablets: 365 kg
- Captagon tablets mixed with caulk: 206 kg
- Tramadol tablets: 28,944 sheets
These achievements underscore the Kurdistan Region's commitment to maintaining social stability and protecting public health by combating drug trafficking and abuse.
