Kurdistan Region parliamentary election candidate list finalized: 139 parties, 124 individuals registered
A total of 139 political parties, two coalitions, and 124 individual candidates have been registered. Among them are 19 Christians and 20 Turkmen.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Jumana al-Ghalai, spokesperson for Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), announced on Saturday that the deadline for submitting candidates, parties, and coalitions for the Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections has passed.
A total of 139 political parties, two coalitions, and 124 individual candidates have been registered. Among them are 19 Christians and 20 Turkmen.
Regarding Christian candidates, seven are located in Erbil, four in Sulaimani, and eight in Duhok. The Turkmen community has 20 candidates, 14 in Erbil and six in Sulaimani.
The spokesperson mentioned that a special committee employed by the commission in the Kurdistan Region is currently reviewing and analyzing the information provided by coalitions, parties, and candidates.
On June 26, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani announced that the sixth session of the Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections would take place on October 20.
