Chamchamal Mayor highlights Goptapa's water supply project importance
Mayor of Chamchamal District Ramak Ramazan "Goptapa water supply project fixes the issue of water shortage in Chamchamal district for the next 50 years.”
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Wednesday, the Mayor of Chamchamal District Ramak Ramazan pointed Goptapa water supply project out to Kurdistan 24, to be an important water source to Chamchamal town in Sulaimani province.
Chamchamal district covers 6 sub-districts, 440 villages and 57 directorates, as well as Garmaser, Takya, Shorsh and several more villages.
It’s years Chamchamal District, areas around, subdistricts and all the villages located within the district border suffered substantially from water shortage. The issue occurs in the clean water, and insufficient volume supply to each home in the whole zone.
Many local residents in the town, expressed their worries to the TV channel section at Kurdistan 24, and troubled with such inadequate water supply.
They explained it’s been very difficult for the households to cope with this daily-life-necessity matter (water).
One of the locals who is a watch repair-man uncle Karim said “Now, we can only get once supplied with water in 10 days. It would be good if we could save water for 3-4 days.”
Another highlighted the risks of keeping water in the water-barrel or tank for too long, that could lead to get contaminated, germs growth level increased and caused more disease in health-wise debating.
Ramazan stated “The water supply project from Goptapa will fix the water shortage in Chamchamal for the next 50 years.”
“The level of producing clean and drinkable water is 3400 cubic meters m3. I can say it will sort the lack of water out in the district and all other areas around for the next 50 years” he continued.

In conclusion from the clarification that the mayor provided, the water-supply source contains methods to make drinking water safe for use. There is a huge pool, filters, where it has water pipes and pumps to transfer on to Takia montain and from there to Banimaqam.
