KRG bans plastic bags in food establishments

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a move to protect public health, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Wednesday announced a ban on the use of plastic bags in restaurants, bakeries, and similar establishments.
Sarkar Surchi, the spokesperson for the KRG Ministry of Health, announced by highlighting the health risks associated with plastic bags.
"From now on, paper bags will replace plastic bags in all food establishments," Surchi declared. He emphasized that plastic bags are scientifically proven to be harmful to human health and could potentially cause cancer.
Surchi also noted that this change aligns with a global trend towards safer, more environmentally friendly alternatives.
