KRG authorities seize 40 kilograms of drugs, arrest three suspects

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) anti-narcotic authorities announced the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of 40 kilograms of drugs, according to a spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region's Directorate General of Combatting Narcotics.

On Thursday, Arkan Bibani, spokesperson for the Directorate General of Combatting Narcotics, detailed the operation to Kurdistan 24.

"Following an order from the security investigation judge and with detailed information from our investigation, we seized 19 books filled with crystal drugs," Bibani said.

The security investigation judge instructed the Kurdistan Regional Government and Sulaimani security agencies to be informed about the drug source and transportation method to facilitate a comprehensive investigation and ensure the arrest of those involved.

"We were able to seize 19 drug-coated books disguised as school 'textbooks,' intended for transit through the Kurdistan Region to the UK," he explained.

After providing information to the Sulaimani authorities, another suspect was apprehended along with four additional drug-laden books. This initial operation was carried out on June 2, followed by a subsequent operation in Sulaimani, resulting in the seizure of 44 more books.

"In the second operation on July 23, we seized 40 kilograms of drugs and arrested three suspects," Bibani concluded, underscoring the ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking in the region.
