ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met with members of the Kirkuk Provincial Council from the Arab component on Thursday to discuss the ongoing efforts to select a governor for the province and form the local government.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Media Office, al-Sudani underscored the importance of completing the local government formation and achieving consensus among the province's diverse representatives.
He emphasized that no group should be marginalized in decision-making, given the unique nature of Kirkuk. The Prime Minister called for the cooperation of all national forces to meet the aspirations of the people and advance government plans in service and development.
Al-Sudani highlighted the significance of successfully holding local elections in Kirkuk, a milestone not achieved since 2005.
This success, he noted, represents a crucial step toward establishing stability in the province and fulfilling the government's program.
He reiterated that provincial councils and local governments are essential in supporting the government's efforts to complete its service and economic duties across various development areas.
