Overwhelming Kardo, Saman who gained highest scores among Iraqi students

It is quite known that Iraqi education system is very tough, pupils must not only study hard and thoroughly, but to score high marks in each subject i.e. total average not to be less than 70-80%, if they want to apply for the university.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The final term exam-reports were announced in July 2024 for pupils in grade 12, by both Kurdistan Region’s and Iraqi Ministries of Education, separately.

Following the announcement, the first 10th highest marks were revealed by the Iraqi Ministry of Education for the south and middle zones of Iraq.

Kardo Farhan and Saman Mohammed are Kurdish, from Kirkuk, were affirmed to be the fist two older children who gained the highest scores among Iraqi pupils in the final year of high school.

The final year of high school which is year 12, according to the education system in Iraq that is the final year of high school. Pupils must try their best to pass with a grade that would assist them apply to a department in the university that they would like to join.

In comparison to the UK system, the final year of Iraq and Kurdistan Region’s high school is equivalented with A level. British pupils, afterwards, can go to college (it is not a university, but it is still considered as a qualification to continue and then to complete another couple of years in the education to be able to join universities).

However, in Iraqi system there are 6 grades in the high school after primary school, in which pupils should score no less than 50-60% in each subject learning and pass each year successfully, therefore it will to enable them to move to the following year.

The education and its subjects learning are in Kurdish in Kurdistan Region yet in Iraq is in Arabic. The required subjects in scientific classes are Math, Biology, Chemistry, physics, English, Arabic languages, and in the non-scientific and humanitarian classes are History, Geography, Economy, Arabic and English languages, math and literature. However, subjects are learned in school but not necessarily tested in the final term of exam for example Art and Sport.

Kardo Farhan and Saman Mohammed, among more than 300.000 Iraqi pupils, have scored the highest marks in all the required subject 100% and 99.71% successively.

Kardo and Saman made a lot of effort to gain such marks, they made all the family and acquaintances proud. The Kurdistan Region Government’s Prime Minster Masrour Barzani, personally, extended congratulations cards to them and other pupils who scored very high marks.
