The Dwin Dam, with a storage capacity of 100 million cubic meters and covering an area of four square kilometers, is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting agricultural land in Erbil province and raising groundwater levels.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is set to lay the foundation stone for the Dwin Dam in Erbil on Monday, marking a significant step forward in the region's water management and economic development.
The Dwin Dam, with a storage capacity of 100 million cubic meters and covering an area of four square kilometers, is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting agricultural land in Erbil province and raising groundwater levels.
The RCC concrete dam, standing at 75 meters high and 320 meters long at its peak, will also serve as a tourist attraction, offering scenic views alongside the historic Dwin Castle.
Furthermore, the dam is expected to transform the area into a thriving fishing center, generating economic benefits for nearby residents.
Importantly, the Dwin Dam will regulate the waterway, mitigating the risk of floods and protecting Erbil and its surrounding areas from natural disasters.
The project will be implemented by SENK Group, a company with a proven track record in high-quality projects. Established in 2000, SENK Group is recognized as the only company in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq with experience in implementing RCC concrete dams, including the successful Goma Span Dam.
This initiative reflects the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government's commitment to serving all sectors throughout the region, with a particular focus on advancing the agricultural and water resources sectors.
