PM Masrour Barzani to lay foundation for 15 new schools in Erbil’s Khabat township
This initiative is part of the government's continued efforts to develop and modernize the education sector across the Kurdistan Region.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is set to lay the foundation stone for the construction of 15 kindergartens and schools in Khabat township, Erbil province, on Tuesday.
This initiative is part of the government's continued efforts to develop and modernize the education sector across the Kurdistan Region.
Similarly, the Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has allocated over 2 billion dinars to renovate 28 schools in the Sidakan subdistrict of Soran Independent Administration.
Halgurd Sheikh Najib, supervisor of the Soran Independent Administration, announced the initiative in a press conference on Sunday, stating, “On the instructions of Prime Minister Barzani, all mud schools will be rebuilt.”
The project will see the renovation of 18 schools in the Sidakan subdistrict, eight in the Mergasur district, and one each in the Choman and Rawanduz districts.
On Sep. 1, KRG Education Minister Alan Hama Saeed announced that the Prime Minister had allocated 300 million Iraqi dinars for the repair of several schools in Koya.
Between September and Oct. 2024, 42 new kindergarten and school buildings are set to open for the upcoming academic year, effectively eliminating the two-shift system in most schools across the Kurdistan Region.
Since the start of the ninth cabinet, significant progress has been made in the education sector. Over 195 school buildings and 460 new classrooms have been constructed, and more than 1,660 schools have undergone renovation. These developments have expanded educational access to over 100,000 students in the public sector.
The 2024-2025 academic year is set to begin on Sep. 25, marking a new chapter for the Kurdistan Region’s education system.
