ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Wednesday, Ali Tatar, the governor of Duhok, announced the commencement of the Ruviya-Akre road construction project, covering a distance of 1.5 kilometers and including the development of drainage systems and sidewalks.

The project is set to be completed at a cost of five billion Iraqi dinars.

During a press conference, Governor Tatar emphasized the strategic importance of this project, which is part of a broader vision to enhance regional connectivity.

"An international highway between Erbil, Duhok, and the Turkish border will be built, thanks to Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s vision, despite the ongoing financial crisis," he stated.

Tatar highlighted that the road's construction will benefit not only Ruviya but also the neighboring areas of Bardarash, Akre, and the wider Kurdistan Region.

He further noted that the prime minister had approved numerous infrastructure projects for both Akre and Bardarash, providing over 10 billion dinars from Duhok province's special budget for development in villages, towns, and urban centers.

Additionally, Governor Tatar mentioned that another budget allocation for Ruviya is forthcoming, with details to be announced after the initiation of several other projects.

Sasan Awni, Kurdistan Region’s Minister of Municipalities and Tourism, also addressed the media, reaffirming the government's commitment to development without discrimination.

"Prime Minister Barzani’s projects for cities and towns continue across the Kurdistan Region, ensuring that government institutions are present wherever citizens need services," Awni said.

The Ruviya-Akre road will feature two lanes and a fully developed sewerage system, with the foundation stone marking the beginning of this crucial project.

The initiative aims to improve infrastructure and boost economic development in Duhok and the surrounding areas.
