Kurdistan Region Universities accept 96% of high school graduates in first round

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has accepted over 44,000 students in the first round of university admissions for the 2024-2025 academic year, representing 96% of online applicants, Minister Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir announced in a press conference.
"The remaining 4% of applicants, approximately 1,700 students who faced technical issues during the application process, will be accommodated in the second round of admissions," Dr. Qadir assured.
He emphasized that, consistent with previous years, the ministry aims to achieve 100% placement rate, noting that "we still have more than 13,000 available seats across our institutions."
Dr. Khatab Shekhani, Director General at the Ministry, provided detailed statistics for this year's high school graduates:
- Total graduates: 56,130
- Scientific stream: 41,277
- Literary stream: 13,541
- International schools: 410
- Vocational education: 902
"For the 2024-2025 academic year, we've prepared 64,761 seats across our institutions," Dr. Shekhani revealed, noting that this marks the first time the ministry has developed such a comprehensive admission plan aimed at accommodating all graduates.
The ministry announced that students can check their university placements through the online admission portal (Zankoline) starting at 1:00 PM on Sunday.
