Kurdistan Region President, Nechirvan Barzani attends COP29 summit

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani arrived in Baku, the Azerbaijani capital, on Monday, upon a formal invitation from the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

The purpose of the Kurdistan Regional President, Nechirvan Barzani’s visit is to participate in the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29) alongside other international presidents and leaders.

This conference is from November 11th to 22nd, 2024, disputes clean energy, an alternative to fossil fuels, to decrease harmful gas emissions, to enhance the community motivates and awareness to climate change alongside the rising climate-related disasters.

It also discusses the national climate action plans by each of the countries, effective implementation, and to over the sustainable development energy

It is understood that Kurdistan Region President reiterating his commitment to a greener and cleaner Kurdistan, as well as to stress the water and environmental issues in the summit. 

According to the sources from the presidency media department, the opening ceremony of the conference is on Tuesday, November 12th, 2024, which is held to discuss the challenges of the environment, the problems and consequences of the climate changes.  

Worth mentioning is the Environmental Reports expressing concerns about Iraq which is facing a severe water shortage due to the decreasing and fluctuated weather changes, higher temperatures, and waste and mistreating the natural resources.

According to the UN’s World Meteorological Organization (WMO) issues its annual statements on the status of the global climate to provide credible scientific information on the climate and its variability. 

In message posted through X platform, Kurdistan Region President expressed his gratitude, describing the international conference as successful and well-organized summit.
