With Kurdistan Region Government, Kurdish Ministry of Interior’s cooperation, census will succeed in Iraq

The curfew lasts for two days, however only journalists, employees from the Ministry of Planning, Health and Civil Defense workers will be allowed to travel.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – All preparations for the census process in Iraq have been completed, the process is arranged and will be made by 125000 employees, in the coming days.

In this regard, Brigadier General Miqdad Miri, the Spokesperson of the Iraqi Federal Interior Ministry advised Kurdistan 24, all the preparations completed, with the Interior Ministry at the Kurdistan Regional Government’s coordination, to run the process successfully.

“We have good coordination and cooperation with the Kurdistan Region Government, in all provinces, to make the process successful,” He also stated “the process includes all Iraqi provinces, in a unifying step, will run whether in Kurdistan Region, Baghdad or Basra”

He further explained that the curfew lasts for two days, however only journalists, employees from the Ministry of Planning, Health and Civil Defense workers will be allowed to travel.

The curfew does not include airports and border crossing gates, and business running will be normal.

Dhiaa Kadhim, the Head of the Central Statistical Organization and Geographic Information Systems at the Ministry of Planning, revealed to Kurdistan 24 that the comments by the Kurdistan Region Government on census regarding the Article (140) areas have been taken into consideration.

According to the decision from the Iraqi Council of Ministers, the 1957 census will be set as the basis.

The reassurance made regarding the after-census process, in which the data of the people from those areas will be compared with the data back in 1957 census.

Depending on people’s data, personal information and their areas will be referred back to their places of origin, but not on their place of residing.

Earlier, concerns made by Kurdish seniors regarding areas of Article (140).

The statistics of population 2024, will only cover citizens living in Iraq, but regarding the citizens abroad will be censused in the future.

In this regard, Abdul Zahra Hindawi, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Planning highlighted to Kurdistan 24, the preliminary results will be announced 24 hours after the end of the process.

It is understood that at the end of the process which consists the total population of Iraq, the number of genders and the population of each province, the final result of the census will be declared after 2 months.

The last census took place, in Iraq, in 1997.

This year, 2024, census will be made by 125000 employees, the data and information will be recorded in advanced electronically.
